Course Description & Objectives  

Students will:

- Gain deeper knowledge and improved skills in the operations of the Google applications such as Google Docs & Google Sites, Microsoft (MS) Office applications PowerPoint, Paint and Publisher, in addition to various websites for producing multimedia products such as, but not limited to, prezi.com,  animoto.com, and jibjab.com .

- Become proficient in image editing, the development of graphics, and animation using AdobePhotoshop Elements, Windows Moviemaker, and iMovie.

- Learn some basic vocabulary and terms about Copyright laws, including Fair Use.

- Become aware of the qualities of the Adobe Premiere Elements video editing system and utilize Audacity for sound editing.

"Photoshop Photobooks" The student will learn how to create projects such as photobooks, photo calendars and greeting cards using digital images and a digital image editing software application such as Photoshop Elements. The student will analyze and evaluate which digital image editing functions will be required and apply them to create the final projects.

- Photos (15-30) ==> DUE Thursday, 12/4

"Copyright Glogsters!"Objectives: The purpose of this lesson is to gain and demonstrate basic knowledge of copyright laws, and creating online glogsters on a particular subject or topic, such as copyright law.

Required Information for Glogster:
1.) What is Copyright and how long does it last? (Definition and Duration of Copyright)
2.) What is protected? (List kinds of works under copyright protection)
3.) What is NOT protected? (List kinds of works not protected under copyright)
4.) What is Public Domain? (Be sure to answer the following question in this section: Is everything on the Internet Public Domain?)
5.) What is Fair Use?
a. Factors & reasons/purposes that make a work protected under Fair Use.
b. Include limitations for each type of work (music, photos, etc.), under Fair Use.
6.) Research a REAL/TRUE case on copyright violation and present it in your glogster.

"Photoshop: Veteran's Day Poster" - The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate mastery of the Photoshop Elements editing, selection and image repairing functions by designing a poster or collage for Veteran’s Day. Below is a description of Veteran’s Day:

“Veterans’ Day is an annual United States holiday honoring military veterans. This federal holiday is observed on November 11. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.”

"Photoshop: National French Week Poster" - The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate mastery of the Photoshop Elements editing, selection, and image repairing functions by designing an advertisement poster for the upcoming Cole High School National French Week Festival. Requirements for poster as stated by Madame Schulz are listed below.

"Photoshop: Fall Musical Poster" - The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate mastery of the Photoshop Elements editing, selection, and image repairing functions by designing an advertisement poster for the upcoming Cole High School fall musical production of “Through the Looking Glass”. A description of the musical from Theatre instructor, Mrs. Barbara Lien:

It's Alice's adventures in Wonderland after stepping through the Looking Glass. She'll meet the Red and White Queen with all their little Pawns, as well as, Humpty Dumpty, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Dixie Chicks, the Red and White Knights, and talking flowers, Rose, Tiger-Lily, and Daisy. As always, we'll have plenty of dancing, catchy tunes, and all proceeds with go towards the Senior Scholarship Fundraiser in the Performing Arts.

"Photoshop: Hispanic Heritage Poster" - Students will learn features and tool in Photoshop Elements while designing a poster in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
 
NOTE: Top 10 posters will be selected by Mrs. Hanna according to creativity & required elements. These posters will be printed in small size, laminated and posted throughout the school during the school’s Hispanic Heritage celebration. Senora Powell and Senora Bireley will select a winning poster from the top ten to be printed in large size (2’ x 3’), laminated and posted in HS mall during the school’s Hispanic Heritage celebration.

"Hispanic Heritage Poster" - Create a Google Doc with a 1 line description of the topic(s) you will use for your poster AND a minimum of two images you will use to create your poster. You may use the full image(s) or parts of the image(s) as this is a skill you will learn how to do in photoshop (select, cut and paste parts of images onto other images or backgrounds).
 
NOTE: Make sure this Google Doc is in your Media Design folder that is shared with me. DUE TODAY! Also, check the rubric for the project below for more details and final due date for poster (10/10).

"College Signs Project!" - Students will create colorful certificates (similar to a college degree) using the college or university of their choice. They will research their favorite school to gather information such as the school colors, school emblem or logo, and what majors or fields of study are available. They will then choose a major in a field of study and create a degree-like certificate for themselves using the school colors, logo and/or emblem, and their name. After creating their own certificate, they will be assigned a teacher and will make a similar degree-like certificate for that teacher with the teacher's actual school and degree information.

"What is Multimedia?" - Students will have a class discussion and watch videos about the definition of multimedia and the components of multimedia products. They will also play a pictionary-style game in teams using multimedia vocabulary and terms to reinforce the multimedia concepts. Finally they will define multimedia in their own terms and list 3-5 components of a multimedia product. Links to videos about multimedia are below.
