About Ms. Velazquez

Hello! My name is Angela Velazquez, and I will be teaching Pre-AP English II and University of Texas dual enrollment rhetoric this year at Cole!

I am honored to be a part of the Cougar community, and I look forward to getting to know all my students and their families this year. This will be my eleventh year teaching English, and every year, I just grow to love this profession more and more. A little bit about me: I have a bachelor's degree in secondary English education and a master's in English- Rhetoric, Writing, and Digital Media Studies. I moved to Texas from Arizona five years ago and have completely fallen in love with San Antonio.

As far as teaching goes, the decisions I make in the classroom all go back to four guiding principles that I believe curate the strongest lessons and relationships. These principles, I first heard from poet and author Clint Smith, are to make sure my students leave my classroom being able to:
1. Read Critically
2. Write Consciously
3. Speak Clearly
4. Tell their Truth

By focusing on these principles, my goal is for my students to leave my class stronger English students and more confident humans.

I look forward to an amazing year. :)
