About Me

Bitmoji ImageI am a native Texan who grew up on the outskirts of east Houston close to the Houston Ship Channel in a suburb named Galena Park. While I loved and participated in a variety of sports and activities throughout elementary, middle school, and high school...my true love was and always has been getting lost in a good book.

After I graduated from Galena Park High School, I attended Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas, for my Bachelors Degree. It was there that I met and married my husband, John. Over the years, I have had the privilege to live and work in a variety of states as a result of my husband's military career. Through it all, my love of books continued growing.

I sought to combine my love of books while pursuing Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (Reading) at the University of Southern Mississippi. After my husband's orders to PCS to San Antonio, I taught middle school English and Reading in a local school district. In 2007, I made the move to Fort Sam Houston ISD because I felt the calling to work within the military community.  It is the BEST place I have had the opportunity to teach. In addition, my son (2010), daughter-in-law (2010), and daughter (2011) are all proud graduates of Robert G. Cole.

Among all the adventures, I completed graduate programs in both library and information science as well as school administration. In 2017, the opportunity arose for me to move from high school English into the Media Center as a library media specialist. In the spring of 2019, I was honored to be recognized as one of twenty Distinguished Educators and then to also be awarded the coveted Trinity Prize for Excellence in Education. A few weeks later, I was presented with Diamond Abydos Writing Trainer Certification. None of these things would be possible without being surrounded with the best students, parents, and staff anywhere.

I am always eager to share my passion for reading and books (both print and digital) with middle school and high school students. And most of all, I am excited to continue working with the wonderful families and students of Fort Sam Houston ISD.
