Sixth Grade Policies

Here you will find valuable information for students and parents regarding our 6th-grade team and our expectations for our students. We hope you find this resource beneficial.

Team 6 Rules
Team 6 expects the students to follow the school-wide rules which are called the ROAPS. ROAPS stands for responsibility, on time, accountable, prepared and safe. In the classroom, each individual teacher sets their own behavioral guidelines and expectations (CHAMPS)in class. The school-wide rules and teacher guidelines and expectations are taught extensively at the beginning of each school year and revisited throughout the year as needed. There are positive behavior rewards and also opportunities for improvement through the middle school discipline system.

Conferences
To schedule a team meeting with all of the child's teachers, please contact our team leader, Ms. Burch [email protected] or our counselor, Mrs. Sandoval, [email protected]. Team conferences are available by appointment. To contact an individual teacher, please call the teacher or email him or her directly.

Agendas
The agenda or planner that students receive in the first week of classes is an organizational tool for the student to manage their homework, classwork, and schedule. Students are expected to bring it to every class and fill it out. Parents are encouraged to monitor the agendas as often as possible. If students lose their agenda, they may purchase another one for $5.00.

To Do/Homework Folder
A homework folder is essential for student success. Students will place their homework or important information in this folder to carry home. Students will then place completed homework back in the folder and return it to class.

Communication Remind
All the 6th-grade teachers will share information with you through the Remind account. Please be aware of Remind notifications. Remind messages may be more current than google classroom announcements/assignments.

Make-Up Work for Excused Absences
The number of days absent is the number of days a student has to turn in missed work. If a student will miss several days for an excused absence, please contact the front office at 368-8729 and request work for parent pickup. Please refer to the student-parent handbook for more information.

Middle School Discipline: OFI System
This is the Cole Discipline System used throughout Middle School and is detailed in the student handbook. OFI is an "Opportunity for Improvement" and will result in positive reinforcement of the rules and the consequences of repeat behaviors.
Use of OFI's
Minor offenses will be tracked by informing the students of an OFI (Opportunity for Improvement). Automatic OFI's include food/drink in class, unauthorized cell usage, and inappropriate language.
The student will receive an office referral after the 4th OFI given for that individual during the year.
