Welcome
Welcome to the RGC_MC
Students may have up to 5 items for a 2 week period. More can be arranged if needed.
Students may use the “Hold system” in their Destiny Discover account if a book is not available. Holds will not be honored if a student has a fine or overdue book.
Overdue notices will be sent to students via their fshisd.org email. Please check with the librarian for any questions about notices.
Responsibility for returning items to the media center on time resides with the student who checked the book out.
Students are charged replacement costs for lost or damaged books.
Money will be refunded for lost books found during the same school year.
Students may come to the media center to check in/out books, research, and work independently as long as they have a hall pass from their teacher. Each student should be able to explain what they are working on, what they need, and when they need to return to class. Students are encouraged to ask for help if needed.
Classes of students are scheduled by teachers with the librarian.

FSHISD student library accounts are connected to the primary and secondary parent email addresses provided in the registration packet. Please use one of these to access your student’s library/media center information. Note: Each library/media center’s catalog is public and may be viewed via the Destiny Discover links on the websites. The following directions are for viewing information specific to your student and for utilizing the parental control features for print materials. Contact the secondary librarian for further assistance or questions.
1. Click the Destiny Parent Access Link here.
2. Type your email address.
3. Click Get Access Code.
Note:
If the email address either does not match what is in Destiny or is not connected to a student in the district, you will see the following message:
4. Go to your email account to retrieve the access code.
Notes:
- The code expires in 10 minutes. If it expires, you can click Resend Code from the Get Access Code page.

- The email is sent from no-reply@follettsoftware.com with the subject, "Additional User Type Access Code."

5. The screen should show your student’s name in the upper right corner of the screen once you are logged in to the parent access account.
SEARCH
- Select the magnifying glass at the top of the left sidebar. On the Search bar, you can search the library catalog for titles, authors, and books/ebooks/audiobooks by subject.

- A second window will appear bringing up the public version of our library/media center catalog. It will load the specifics of the book including call number, reading level, interest level, brief overview, additional summary/annotations, etc. Please note that Fiction titles are noted by FIC at the beginning of the Call Numbers and numerical Call Numbers indicate Nonfiction titles.
5. After searching, a list of titles in the current library/media center catalog will appear. If a title is not a good fit for your student, you can block your student from checking out of the library/media center by first clicking the three dots in the upper right corner of the title.
6. Then, select “Do not check out to Student Name”. This will then block the book from being checked out to the student listed until the block is removed in the parent account. The block will stay active as long as the student is a member of FSHISD.

For ebooks / audiobooks/ magazines, parents may view your student’s checkout history and lock books utilizing the parent control features in Sora.Enabling parental controls and entering Parent Mode
- Have your student log into Sora through Classlink.Sora is located in the yellow RGC_MC folder.
- Go to
, then select Parental Controls (under "Support").
- Turn on Parental Controls.
- Enter a 6-digit PIN. You'll use this PIN whenever you want to access Parent Mode.
- Select Enable.
- You'll be in Parent Mode right after you enable parental controls. Make sure to exit Parent Mode before returning Sora to your student.
- After you enable parental controls, you can get back to Parent Mode by going to
> Parental Controls and entering your PIN.
In Parent Mode, you can:
- Select Browse to see all the titles your student has access to in Sora, including those from their school library and any additional libraries they've added. You can also search for specific titles. Searches performed in Parent Mode aren't saved and don't show under recent searches.
- Select History to see the books your student has borrowed or placed on hold. You can edit the history or remove individual items.
- Lock a title to prevent the student from sampling, borrowing, or reading it.
You can lock books to prevent your student from sampling, borrowing, or reading them. To lock a book, go to the title details page and select Lock.
Note: If you lock a magazine, all issues of that magazine will be locked.
Students will still see a locked book when browsing, and can see a locked book's details page, but won't be able to borrow it or place a hold. If the student already has a hold on the book, they won't be able to borrow it when it's available.
Locking a book only locks that format and edition. For example, if a book is available as both an ebook and audiobook, you'll need to lock both of them. Or, if you lock a book and another edition is added, you'll need to return to Parent Mode to lock the new edition.
To unlock a book, go to the title details page and select Unlock
When parental parental controls are disabled:
- The PIN to enter Parent Mode is reset.
- Any locked books are unlocked and available to your student.
- In Sora, go to
, then select Parental Controls (under "Support").
- Enter your PIN, then select Enter Parent Mode.
- Turn off Parental Controls.
